The General Society is excited to announce we will be participating in Plymouth 400’s fourth annual Illuminate Thanksgiving on November 18th as part of America's Hometown Thanksgiving Celebration. Inspired by Pilgrim Governor William Bradford's quote “…as one small candle may light a thousand, so the light here kindled hath shone unto many...”, Illuminate Thanksgiving is an evening promoting gratitude and giving.
The event is free, open to the public and (due to rain) will take place indoor at the First Parish Church at 19 Town Square from 4 PM until 5:15 PM.
After the hour-long program and candle-lighting ceremony, GSMD will be holding a special reception at the Mayflower Society House from 5:30 PM until 7 PM. If you are a member of the General Society and would like to attend the Illumination Reception at the Mayflower Society House on November 18th, please RSVP by contacting Executive Assistant Kathy Liolios at ExecutiveAsst@theMayflowerSociety.org or 508-746-3188 Ext 25.
As part of the evening’s activities, The Mayflower Society will be illuminating our lawn in remembrance of the 102 Pilgrims who traveled here to the New World in 1620.
If you cannot attend the reception and would like to show your support, we encourage you to light your own candle in remembrance to your Pilgrim ancestors and submit your display to us to share Saturday evening.
If you would like to participate in the Digital Illumination and submit a candle lit in honor of your Pilgrim ancestor, please email Communications Manager Christina Scott at Communications@theMayflowerSociety.org with your name, the name(s) of your ancestor(s), your Member Society and a photo of your luminary. We are looking forward to seeing your contributions to this important commemoration event and sharing these powerful images far and wide on social media.
