This #GivingTuesday, the Mayflower Society is honoring the 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower Voyage, with art that brings the voyage to life on canvas.
Recently, painter Mike Haywood donated the majority of his Mayflower Voyage Collection to the Society. His works were inspired by William Bradford's account of the Pilgrims' journey. We want to share these beautiful works, which are a special tribute to the brave Mayflower passengers, by creating a display inside the Mayflower Society House. And for those who can't visit Plymouth, we want to create a "virtual tour" so all can enjoy this art.
Donations to GSMD this #GivingTuesday will provide the needed funding to display the Haywood Collection at the Mayflower Society House and create a virtual tour so they may be shared more broadly.
To display the art, we will need funding to purchase:
1. Moveable walls, a hanging system, and museum lighting;
2. UVA/UVB treatment for the windows to block out damaging light;
3. New signage;
4. Additional security;
5. and a visitors' guidebook about the collection.
And, to create a virtual narrated tour of the collection, we will create a film that will be accessible through the Mayflower Society website.
This year, our goal is to raise $20,000 to fund this significant addition to the Mayflower Society House so that members and visitors, both in person and virtually, can appreciate and enjoy these works of art in all their beauty.
