FTDNAPartenrshipPioneering company in the field of Genetic Genealogy, Family Tree DNA (FTDNA), is partnering with the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD)to identify the DNA profile of the Mayflower Pilgrims.
The partnership is a natural progression. Both organizations strive to bring the most accurate information possible to their constituents. Marrying GSMD lineage documentation to FTDNA tests will allow The Mayflower Society to remain cutting edge in the genealogy field.

The Mayflower Project at FTDNA will now accept only 67-marker YDNA tests. This will greatly help FTDNA as they work to define with better accuracy the DNA of the Pilgrim ancestors. We need to collect DNA information from as many of our male members as possible. This is a groundbreaking project that will allow us to remain the gold standard in lineage research.

The Patriot to Passenger Project is a growing published list of Patriots who descend from Mayflower passengers in an effort to build a bridge between other heritage societies.

“The world of genealogy is changing due to improved technology and the internet as well as continually changing research in the DNA world,” said Lea Sinclair Filson, Governor General of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants (GSMD). “Our partnership with NEHGS through its website allows us to continue being the ‘gold standard’ of genealogy research.”
