It is with personal regret but warm wishes that the General Society of Mayflower Descendants announces the semi-retirement of Executive Director Dr. Walter Powell.

Beginning the week of June 5th, and for about 10 days afterwards, a conservation crew headed by Ivan Myjer of Building and Monument Conservation, Arlington, MA will be completing some badly needed repairs to Plymouth Rock as part of a multi-year million dollar plan by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR) for renovations to the monuments and memorials at Pilgrim Memorial State Park.

This past week, a group of undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in UMass-Boston's Summer Field School at the Fiske Center for Archaeological Research have been doing surveys and shovel tests on the Mayflower Society House property. Directed by Dr. David Landon and Dr. Christa Beranek, the Field School is now in its 5th year in Plymouth, and is part of an ongoing effort to locate as much evidence of the 17th Century community as possible.

Two weeks ago, GSMD welcomed Melyssa Stratton-Webb, daughter of former GSMD Historian General Eugene Stratton (1981-1984), to the Mayflower Society House to talk to us about her time living here and growing up around historic Plymouth.

Dr. Jeremy Dupertuis Bangs was named as a Knight of the Order of Oranje-Nassau by King Willem-Alexander. On "Koningsdag", the King's Birthday celebration in The Netherlands on April 27th, the Mayor of Leiden, Henri Lenferink, presented Dr. Bangs with this knighthood (called in Dutch an "onderscheiding" in the rank of "ridder").
