Welcome! Many families hold a tradition that they are descended from the Pilgrims, which often kindles an interest in finding out more. Sometimes the stories of a Mayflower heritage are true and it is easy to document a descent. More often the documentation is missing and must be researched and supplied to prove one's line. The good news is that advanced research techniques, improved genealogy library collections, and computerized resources have made it easier to track down your Pilgrim roots.
If you are interested in joining us, you will need to provide evidence of your lineage from one of the Mayflower Pilgrims. Anyone who can prove this ancestry may join.
The best documentation to look for is vital records such as the birth, marriage, and death certificates for each person. Other documentation might be published genealogies, family documents and other official records. If you have a relative who is a member of the Society, you may be able to use their lineage documentation to help you with your research.
What you need
Documented descent from one or more of the Mayflower Pilgrims:
• Birth, marriage, and death certificates are ideal.
• Published genealogies, family documents, and other official records may be acceptable.
Contact your Member Society
For becoming an approved official member at GSMD, your first step is to contact one of our 54 Member Societies and work with the historian of that Society on your application. All members apply through a Member Society. Each Member Society has its own structure with its own governor and officers, including at least one historian who can help you figure out lines and gather documents.
To aid in your research, we offer several resources such as suggested websites, partnerships, and projects:

One of our more popular resources is the Mayflower Lineage Match >>
For $75, you can fill out our Mayflower Lineage Match form online and submit it for review. Start with your Pilgrim ancestor, continue through the generations down to yourself. We will compare your proposed lineage with the approved lineage papers in our files to determine what portion of your line is already documented. You will receive a report on the findings with instructions on how to proceed. Click here for the Mayflower Lineage Match >>
Please remember: this is not an application. Applications for membership are handled through our 54 member societies. Contact information for the member societies can be found on the Member Society Contact page of this website.
